A Breath of Fresh Air: Hermes Cape Cod Bleu de Malte Watch
Well, we know that this French fashion house of Hermes has been mostly famous for its ultra-expensive perfumery and all sorts of luxury goods like scarves, ties and leather bags; the brand actually also makes fine watches for both men and women.
Around 40 years ago they even established their own watchmaking brand called La Montre Hermes, which, for known reason, is based in Bienne, Switzerland. Till now, the part of the business devoted to fine watches was rather obscure, but things will probably change soon, since the French company has clearly stepped up its efforts in becoming the major player in the field. In the beginning of the year they even introduced a very interesting Hermes Cape Cod Tourbillon high-end watch that was powered by the brilliantly executed Calibre H 8930 VMF tourbillon movement.
Of course, even the major watch brands cannot make decent living selling only haute horlogerie devices, and that is especially true when we are talking about ladies watches. I mean, when buying jewelry timepieces, women tend to turn more attention to their exterior rather than on the technicalities, such as the type of movement that powers the watch. So, no wonder the French brand decided to present their new Hermes Cape Cod Tonneau Bleu de Malte with an indiscernible quartz movement ticking inside its stainless steel case.
For the ladies this is the new color in the Hermes Cape Cod watch collection. The “Bleu de Malte” offers up a blue toned Hermes calfskin leather strap with gray stitching, and more blue on the dial used for the outline of the signature art deco hour numerals. The blue mixes well with the steel of the case, and the Cape Cod Tonneau look is always timeless in feeling.
The watch comes in two versions: one in a plain stainless steel in one in the same metal adorned with 52 brilliant-cut 1.80 mm diamonds with a total weight of 1.3 carats. These gorgeous stones do add much to the fascination of these watches.
The matte-white diamond of the Cape Cod Tonneau Bleu de Malte is decorated with stylized Arabic numerals that look like a breath of fresh air in the see of monotonous typefaces used by the majority of watchmakers.
